In a recent match against the Huddersfield Giants, Hull FC featured an impressive array of young players, demonstrating the strength of their academy system. While many academy stars took to the field at Brantingham Park, several reserve players also had the opportunity to shine. Here’s a closer look at the contracted reserve players for this year, including some fresh faces and returning talent.
Elliot Middlemas
The talented winger has recently joined first team training alongside Jon Turner and academy back rower Rio Kassim. He made quite an impression by scoring two tries against Huddersfield, but it was his overall performance that truly stood out. Middlemas proved to be reliable under high balls and was active in backfield carries, showcasing a commendable work ethic.
For those familiar with his journey through the academy, it comes as no surprise that he found the try line. This junior player from Beverley Braves made a notable impact when he came off the bench, playing a key role in supporting Kemp to set up Middlemas' second try. Wilson transitioned to Hull's academy from rivals Hull KR during the 2024 season and had previously competed for the reserves last year. Jon Turner
Another promising player, Jon Turner, has been nurtured through the ranks since his scholarship days at Hull Wyke and graduated from the academy last year. Kieran Calvert

Alister Swyer

Henry Watkinson
Adding to the mix, Hull FC has signed former Hull KR academy loose-forward Henry Watkinson to a reserves contract.
